Cookie Bake – Activity

Each year, with hosting Cookie Bake, I have incorporated some kind of activity. The first year was an outside scavenger hunt, last year was fear factor themed and this year was supposed to be capture the flag. We had been lucky the previous years with really good weather outside, however, this year was not. It did show sunshine and a high of 47 on Friday but with all the rain, it would have been so muddy so idea was scrapped. Now what was I going to do with the 12 Nerf Guns that I bought for the outside activity…

Thankfully, with everyone here, we all threw out ideas, and we finally settled on just basically giving the guns to the kids and let them play. But with a catch. We had all the kids downstairs in the basement, while all the adults hid up stairs with masks on. We called the kids up, and on my mark (air gun) we would pop out of where we were hiding and shoot them first.

This was a riot. There was nothing like seeing Grandma in her Mexican wrestling mask, holding her nerf gun, waiting for the arrival of the young ones in the closet. We were all laughing so hard. Definitely something that I won’t forget.

Cookie Bake 2010

The annual Cookie Bake was held the day after Thanksgiving. We had to start a little earlier but I think we did pretty good as well as time. Everyone was able to make their cookies, cut them out and decorate them but for some reason, every year, we always forget to do the buckeyes. This year we didn’t mess up the recipe, we just forgot. Now, about 50 buckeyes are sitting in my freezer being eaten one at a time by the midnight snacker. I shall not name names, but it isn’t me nor Baron.

Gingerbread Houses

Stacy brought some pre assembled Gingerbread houses to Thanksgiving so the kids could decorate. They all loved it, who wouldn’t want to decorate a candy house. Amy’s kids did really well. In fact I think Brooklyn worked twice as long on hers than the others. Baron and Riley were a little different. I think more went into their mouths than on the house. Once Baron figured out that he didn’t have to wait till someone unwrapped the candy for him and he could just lick directly from the house, that’s what he proceeded to do. He was in sugar heaven.

Thanksgiving

There are times when life is hard, and think why me/us? Usually immediately after that, I tend to think how lucky we are to have a roof over our heads, our health, a healthy little boy and family/friends who love us. It’s very easy to look over all the little things in life. Whatever our struggles are, I know that in the end, it will all work out. That someday, we will look back and think, why all the fuss. I really am thankful for so many things and I need to remember that.

Thanksgiving was held here at our house again this year. I know it’s a lot of work but it’s something that I love to do. I have said it before, but having a house full of family and the hustle and bustle of it all just makes me so happy. I love when family comes the day before to help prepare. I love when after we’re finished we all sit around talking and laughing. I love waking up knowing that others are still asleep in the house. It doesn’t get any better.

Benear Family

Meg, Austin and lil Augie came out to our house for a visit and I begged Meg into taking a few pictures of the new family. I’m always needing the practice. They were running a little late and the sun was going down so quickly that I was only able to get just a few shots outdoors until we had to head into the dreaded indoor light. I was pleased with the pictures but I will definitely have to trick them into coming over just to try it again. They are one good lookin’ family.

Have I said how much I hate trying to figure out indoor lighting? It’s ridiculous, and there is even a class that I could take but I seriously don’t want to spend 4 hrs learning it. I just need a magic indoor lighting fairy to come over and teach me. Hint…hint…

Bounce U

Rob and I drive past this place all the time and since there is an event coming up with Baron’s school being held there, I thought I would go check it out ahead of time. Baron and I went to the open bounce Friday morning and in fact it was perfect. It lasted 120 mins and Baron was able to roam free and do what he pleased. This place is almost identical to Monkey Joe’s, however, it’s more expensive and less slides and attractions. I know that may sound bad, it really wasn’t and Baron had a good time. I figure, if he cries when it’s time to go, then it’s a good thing. Is Monkey Joe’s better? Yes, but it’s also another 20 mins away. So there are pro’s and con’s to it. If we have the time to drive, then we will definitely go to Monkey Joe’s.

A nothing weekend…

This past weekend was quite boring and it was refreshing. With Thanksgiving next week and the holiday rush getting ready to begin, it was a good time to get the lists made and just relax with the family. Baron has transitioned to the stage where he requests to watch the same movie over and over again. Thankfully it’s a movie that Rob and I can stomach but we are still trying to get him to watch other movies.

I was successful getting Baron to sing, You Are My Sunshine, on video. In fact he would do it over and over. I know it’s hard to understand at times but we think it’s a riot when he sings it. He also likes to mash songs together when he can’t remember the words. So in the middle of the video he starts with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and transitions into You Are My Sunshine.

Grandparents Weekend

Cindy drove down with a friend on Thursday late afternoon to pick up Baron and Riley to have an extended weekend away from the parents and spend some time with Ama and Pa Pa. We were thankful because we had so much to do around the house and that would give us several days to get things accomplish plus also have some time ourselves.

Apparently Riley woke up Thursday night throwing up and Stacy had to come and get her the following day. Baron was fine…so far. Saturday, they took Baron to cousin Bob’s house who has a horse and a miniature horse named Snapple. Baron got to ride Snapple and from what I heard, he was in hog heaven. This is something that we have been wanting to do with Baron but have never made the time. He also got to ride on a tractor. Talk about big time! Unfortunately, after the nap Baron threw up, and was sick from then on. Rob and I got up early on Sunday and headed to their house to pick up Baron and head back. By the time we arrived, it had hit Cindy and she was also sick. Talk about passing quickly…

Thankfully, Riley was better in a few days and currently now, Baron is starting to feel better. Kudo’s to dad and Cindy for taking care of two sick little ones…
