Fall Pix

I took some shots of Baron the other day before the leaves turned past pretty. I actually think I missed it. Last year I remember them being more vivid. I swear one day they hadn't turned, and then the next they all were sporting colors. This rain has really gotten in the way of taking some fall shots.
He did really well, and he LOVED playing in the leaves. Especially when we would throw them high and let them fall. Laying down in them...that was another story.

UFC

Saturday, Rob and I had several people over to watch the UFC fights that were going to be on that night. I have been wanting to try my hand at fondant cake for awhile now and thought this would be a perfect opportunity. It wasn't easy to say the least.
I knew from reading of the web how to make it and what to do. The making part was easy, what to do after that was the hard part. For those that aren't familiar with fondant. It is a pliable type of coating (icing) for cakes, usually used in wedding cakes to give the cake a smooth look. Very neat, let me tell you.
Since I was doing a UFC cake I wanted to make the cake all black and then use red lettering. I made two batches of fondant (white) and after adding a ton black coloring, I finally got it just where I wanted it. Now, time is short, because in my small lil mind, I thought that I would be able to work this up in a jiffy but it was now 5pm and guests were arriving at 7pm. So, the next step was to roll it. Easy right? NO! The recipe that I had said to use powdered sugar on the table top so it doesn't stick...yea, that didn't work at all. It kept sticking and I kept adding and trying to roll and it was NOT working. By this time, I am getting so angry I want to throw this stuff through the window and it's 6pm. Last resort, I ran to look up online what the deal was. Many still said to use powdered sugar but one said to use shortening. Thank goodness for the Internet, because sure enough it worked.
Instead of the black cake, I just went with white and the red/black lettering. Yes, I know the lettering looks like Baron did it, but with 5 mins till 7pm, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. I slopped it on there and the doorbell rang as I sprinted upstairs to shower. Phew! Tasted great though and it was gone by the end of the night.

Pumpkin Run 5k

I think that this is the 4th time that we have run this 5k and it's by far our most favorite. This year, we were told there were over 2000 participants. With it being so close to Halloween, many choose to dress up. I don't see how some people can run a 5K or 10k at a fast speed let alone dressed fully in a gorilla costume or Santa but they did. If definitely makes the run more enjoyable.
Baron was a good lil boy as usual. When we first got there, he spotted the balloons right away and just had to have one. Thank goodness they were able to give him one because then I knew the whole way I would be hearing "ballooooooooooooon". I just wish I would have tied the balloon lower so that I wouldn't have had to battle that stinking balloon hitting my face every other stride.

Pink Eye & Cancelled Plans

Not technically pink eye, but you get the idea

This post is a little late. Haven't had anything to really post, so I'm going to throw up some pictures that I have taken.
Pink eye...yuck! You would think that I would be writing about Baron getting pink eye but no, it was me. What adult gets pink eye?! It was strange. Last Thursday I woke up to my eye basically shut with gross nasty crusties and when I pried that thing open, it was bright pink. I knew that I had it. Of course later that day, we were supposed to go see my friend Julie in Chicago and I had EVERYTHING packed for the extended weekend. I got an appt with the Dr. because for some reason they didn't trust that I had it and made me come in. I got the drops and was back home by 11. I knew in my heart that we shouldn't head up to Chicago because first of all, it is contagious and secondly there were going to be other little ones around and I wouldn't want for them to get it. So the trip was cancelled. Rob and I were so bummed. We were looking forward to getting away and Julie still hasn't seen Baron since he was a baby. Talk about fun, unpacking everything when you didn't go anywhere!

Sunday, we headed over to the pumpkin patch. We had been there before and really liked it, but now that Baron is able to walk around and do more we had so much more fun. Maybe I didn't notice it last time, but this time there were a ton of things to do with Baron. Pony rides, many playgrounds, tunnels, jumping maze, hay rides etc...he had a ball.
As we were walking up to the pony rides, we got Baron out but then Rob noticed that he only had $3 in his wallet and the ride cost $5. Baron started hysterically crying, and Rob took off back to the car to get more. It was sad, standing there watching all these other little ones ride and he can't because we didn't have enough money. Too funny. Next time we'll come prepared.

This Saturday we made the 2hr drive to Thayer to see Aunt Amy and the kiddos. It was nice to get out of the house and the drive wasn't really that bad. I knew that Baron would love all the attention he gets from his cousins.

Another reason we came to visit, was because Griffin was playing in the JFL Football Superbowl. Their team (Virden Bulldogs - Purple) were currently undefeated and were heading into a game where they had already beat the competitors twice. This time, however, they weren't so lucky. They ended up losing 16 - 6:( It was so sad to see so many little guys crying and upset. Griffin barely let me take his picture after the game. You can tell that he was not a happy camper.

Kite Flying

Yesterday was so nice, we busted out the kite that we had bought a while ago. Baron definitely got a kick out of it but he was having a hard time looking at it. The whole looking up and balancing needs some work. He really liked to hold it, run and then try and catch the tail.

New Game

video

This is the new game (other than ring around the rosy) that Baron loves to play. He will ask me for some ice and then tease the dogs into trying to lick it out of his hands. He gets the biggest kick out of this. Somewhere he has picked up a new laugh, a real hearty chuckle. Maybe he's trying to mimic us? I sure hope that's not how I sound when I laugh.

Eureka Rodeo

We headed to the Eureka Fireman's Rodeo on Friday night. I had never been to a rodeo, only have seen them on TV, but Rob was an ol seasoned pro. I have to admit, between the people watching and the actual Rodeo, it was pretty interesting event. I thought it would have gone a little faster, but according to Rob, it takes some time to get the horses/cattle set up. I haven't seen that many horses in a long time and Baron wouldn't turn his head. We got there early so we could let him walk around and I think he stuck out like a sore thumb. All the other kids were dressed in their cowboy/cowgirl attire, while Baron was decked out in his hoodie, puppy dog hat and tennies.
Later, during intermission, he made some friends, danced a little and had his first encounter with a little girl who kept pushing him. It was harmless, but oh so funny. He really didn't know what to do. He just kept running away. We got some laughs and had an all around good time. Yee Haw!

Garage Friend

As I was fixing Baron his lunch the other day, Rob called me out to the garage. The last time this happened, he had found a snake that was was in the corner. Apparently when Rob went to put something away, he heard a slithering noise and about jumped out of his skin. It was a medium sized one but still, in our garage!! That was nice, because it's not like we're in the garage at all. Yuck. This time, however, wasn't a snake but a HUGE spider. From living out here I have seen some big spiders but this didn't even compare. Time to spray again...
